Sonata lounging in the genpop at the Manor

Here at Jellicle Manor, we have TNRd many, many cats over many, many years. For a long while, we had no new kitties; we had a stable colony of about 4-6 fixed, eartipped kitties, 4 of whom pretty much lived in the yard at the Manor.

In late 2019, a pack of feral dogs came through and killed many community cats in the neighborhood - including one of our own. We brought the remaining yard cats inside.

Well: nature abhors a vacuum, and we were still providing food for the stray kitties (Alex’s momma comes around, still, after all these years, so we keep feeding). And since there was a food source, inevitably, new cats started to show up.

There was a pair of kittens that made their way over from a feeder-breeder house a block and a half away. Sonata, and his sister Samba.

We saw a black kitty get hit and killed coming to dinner one night, and thought it was Sonata’s sister, since he started coming for dinner without her. Heartbroken, We resolved to save Sonata from that fate. So one night, we trapped him.

He acted feral as all get out on that first night, and we took him to our friends at Golden State Humane Society for his neuter. We had him eartipped in case he needed to be released back into the neighborhood.

Luckily, he calmed down pretty quickly, and is now a mush. He is a little timid around strangers but he’s doing better day by day.

He’s going to go on a rotation into the adoption center to see if he can lose that sense of stranger danger. Hopefully he shows us how adoptable he really is!

He chirps when he’s being petted; he loves belly rubs.

He would have been an AWFUL feral cat. MOL!
