The story of Mako

May 17, 2018: I get a call from a number I don’t recognize. It’s a woman asking me if I can take her cat. I don’t remember now how she got my number, but after talking to her, I had to help her with this black kitty, She was in los angeles and if this black kitty ended up in an LA shelter, she’d never make it out alive.

The family had rescued her about 6 months before, as a kitten, from a parking lot. They loved her so much.

There was only one problem: they were not supposed to have pets. and they got caught.

So that is how Mako ended up as a part of Jellicle Manor.

Mako was so upset when she was brought here that her family couldn’t even properly say goodbye to her; she was hissy and bitey and would not be held. Mom and kids left in tears.

After a few days, Mako settled in here. The family came to visit her, and she was happy to see them, though surprisingly was not devastated when they left. She enjoyed the visit and then settled back into the normal routine here.

What became clear, though, as Mako and I continued to get acquainted, is that she was not going to be adoptable.

She BITES.

So, she’s my cat. She sleeps on me, and sits on my lap. She rubs against my ankles and chirps her squeaky little hellos at me. I love her. And, usually, when I absent-mindedly try to pet her, she reminds me of her boundaries and my remiss manners, and gives me a chomp.

So she’s another of my forever cats.

But that’s ok. We have a weird relationship, Mako and I, but we love one another <3
