Frequently Asked Questions

hi jellicle cats, can you take the kittens we just found?

First: don’t be abducting kittens! If the kittens are relatively safe, keep an eye on them and see if momma comes back. Mommas gotta eat too, you know!

If you have done that and there’s no sign of momma - or if you are rescuing the kittens to get them out of harm’s way - reaching out for rescue is the right thing to do.

However, we are a small, foster-based rescue who is usually packed pretty tight. If we can help you, we will. But if we can’t take them, we can help to point you in the right direction.

my new boo is allergic to my cat - can you take him?

We are not taking in any owner surrenders at this time. We will typically provide you with advice on how to manage the allergies to make everyone’s lives easier. If that doesn’t work, we will help provide you with guidance and resources to get your kitty into a new home - but it may take some time.

my significant other says i have to get rid of my cat today. can you help?

Honey, this is where it starts. First, they want you to get rid of your cat; the next thing you know, your friends are all banished. You should rethink this entire situation, before it’s too late. Trust me: I’m old and wise, and also I’m right.

can you come trap these community cats and take them away?

No. No, I can’t. In the first place, there really isn’t any good place to relocate community cats to; in the second place, it doesn’t usually work out well for the cats. Oh, and there is a third place, too: if you trap and relocate community cats - more will come. Nature abhors a vacuum, and where there are cats, there is a food source. Your best solution is Trap-Neuter-Return. You can stop the colony from growing, while keeping new, unaltered kitties from coming in and popping out more kittens. TNR is the best solution! We can definitely help you accomplish that goal!

who pays for this?

Our funding comes from two places: donations, and the Matron’s paycheck. The more donations we get, the more kitties we can help! We rely so much on your support!

don’t you get money from the government?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

no.

why don’t you have your phone number posted on your website?

Believe it or not, this is not the Matron’s primary job; this is a 100% volunteer gig that gets done outside of (and in addition to) a normal full time day job. Hey, someone has to earn the kibble.

We are not animal control, and we do not do emergency field rescue. It’s best to send an email or a Facebook message, which the Matron usually tries to respond to as the workload allows.
